Poe Dameron Ongoing Comic Series Announced!

Starting in April, we’ll be getting our first ongoing  Marvel “Star Wars” comic set in “The Force Awakens” time period, and it will be about everyone’s favorite new pilot, Poe Dameron!

USA Today has the exclusive reveal, where they announced that “Lando” and “Obi Wan & Anakin” writer Charles Soule will be writing the book, with “Chewbacca” artist Phil Noto handling the art. The book will focus on Poe’s role as the best pilot and leader of the Resistance X-Wing squadron, and will lead up to the opening of “The Force Awakens,” where Poe meets up with Lor San Tekka on Jakku. The series will also introduce a new villain from the First Order, who will become Poe’s main nemesis. And of course BB-8, as well as other Legacy characters, will appear in the book alongside Poe.

Here’s what writer Charles Soule told USA Today about what we can expect from the new book:

“Sometimes it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told. But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.”

“It’s not as instinctive in some ways as writing a story about, say, Lando Calrissian was for me – I’ve been thinking about Lando Calrissian for 30 years, whereas Poe Dameron I’ve been thinking about for six months,” says Soule, who likens the upcoming comic to a Mission: Impossible movie with Poe in the lead.

“It’s silly not to explore the idea of a guy who grew up steeped in the Rebellion and the older Republic and all of those myths and legends. If you think about it, he grew up the way we did, hearing all of these stories.”

“The Force Awakens” is not even a month old yet, but I’ve already been dying for a comic series set in this time period that focuses on the great new characters from the film. So I’m super excited for this series, and is hopefully just the first of many new comic series focusing on the main characters of Episode VII.
