Lucasfilm has already found a replacement for Phil Lord and Chris Miller as director for the young Han Solo film, and it will be Ron Howard.
Here is the official statement from Kathleen Kennedy about Ron Howard directing the film from StarWars.com, where she also reveals that filming will resume on July 10th:
“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago. With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”
Ron Howard’s name was first rumored as the front runner for the job a few days ago when it was announced that Lord and Miller have left the project, and it turns out those rumors were true. Besides directing many successful movies, Howard is no stranger to Lucasfilm and “Star Wars” fans, as he worked with George Lucas when he starred in “American Graffiti,” directed “Willow,” and was there to offer some advice to Lucas during production on “The Phantom Menace.” I think Ron Howard is a great choice to get the film back on track, plus I will just be excited to see what he brings to a “Star Wars” film.
