It’s been widely speculated that one of the first Star Wars stand-alone films will be about Boba Fett. But a few months ago, a crazy and just plain silly rumor came up that Lucasfilm’s plan was to retcon Boba Fett’s story to where he wouldn’t be a clone of Jango Fett anymore, due to some people not liking that story George Lucas gave to the character. But today Pablo Hidalgo, who’s a part of Lucasfilm’s story group, made some comments on Facebook about this rumor, where he sets the record straight on how Boba Fett’s story told in Episode II and in ” The Clone Wars” will remain cannon. Here are the comments he made courtesy of The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Facebook fan page. His comments are meant to be sarcastic, but they do a great job of getting the point across of just how silly that rumor was in the first place:
“Spoiler: Boba is a clone of Jango Fett. It turns up in one of the movies.”
“There was this whole thing where he was a legitimate character with a developed back story and complex motivation that showed up on this show called Clone Wars. It was pretty neat. The guy who invented the character came up with it, which was a nice touch. I think it’s on Netflix.”
“Also – get this – there’s a version of The Empire Strikes Back (“Episode V” some call it) where they went to the trouble to make Boba Fett’s voice the same voice as the character who played his father. That was one of several clues woven into the movies that strongly suggest the movies released from 1999-2005 take place in the same universe, and if you think about it, are sort of the same story as the ones that came out earlier. It’s pretty crazy. They’re connected. Anyway, this version of it can be found on DVD and Blu-ray where such things are sold.”
“Anyway, these sorts of clues are hidden all throughout the movies. The opening crawls are actually numbers if you look at it (I = 1, II= 2/… V = 5, VI = 6). if you look at it the right way, it hints that this whole thing is meant to tie together.”
“You know, there was a post not a month ago that said what were the immovable objects in the Star Wars canon. The internet records such things.”
“Obviously I got nothing against **** (cheers!) It’s just the rebooted Fett rumor is so transparently coming from someone (not ****, in case there’s any confusion) who still has an axe to grind against the prequels. That’s where all these retcon prequel rumors come from. Don’t give ’em any weight.”
For me personally, it made my day reading this. Of course we don’t know any details about what the upcoming stand-alone movies will be about yet and things can always change, but I’ve spoken before about how much I hated the idea of changing Boba Fett’s character just because certain people didn’t like him being a clone (Which you can listen to here) so reading Pablo Hidalgo’s comments was definitely reassuring for me.

The stand alone Boba Fett should remain true to Attack of the Clones, and cast Daniel Logan back as Boba Fett, who goes after Mace Windu. The film can take place immediately following attack of the Clones or after and before Revenge of the Sith. There is I believe a 3 year gap between AOTC and ROTS, so it can be canon that this is where this stand alone Boba Fett film takes place. I think fans would be excited if this is how it turns out and Daniel Logan returns. He’s about the right age at this story’s time line to play the character.
