Entertainment Weekly has gotten exclusive new details on the upcoming “Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi” books coming this fall, including the reveal of some new books.

First up is “The Legends of Luke Skywalker” by Ken Liu coming October 31st. This one sounds really cool, as it will be about the rumors and stories going around the galaxy about the legend of Luke Skywalker.
Michael Siglain, creative director of Lucasfilm Publishing says, “For kids coming out of The Force Awakens, for casual fans coming out of that movie, you hear about Luke Skywalker for that whole film, but you only see him for two seconds at the end. He doesn’t even say anything. This book is a book that goes into some of those stories that were told, some of those legends of Luke Skywalker. Are they true? Well, maybe. Maybe not.”
Next we have a new Yong Adult novel called “Leia: Princess of Alderaan” by Claudia Gray, which will come out on September 1st. “Leia: Princess of Alderaan” takes place when Leia is a teenager, but will offer clues to what her role will be in “The Last Jedi.” It will show how she first got involved with the rebellion, and give us more insight to her relationship with her foster parents. Siglain says “This is where she started. It’s still a YA novel, so it’s still her going against her parents who are trying to protect her.”
“Phasma” by Delilah S. Dawson is of course the one I’m looking forward to the most, as I cant wait to learn more about where she came from, how she joined the First order, and what motivates her, which is what this book will dive into. “You have a very mysterious character,” Siglain says. “You don’t know who this person is. You don’t know what her background is. All you see is that expressionless mask. And so the thought was, well, what if we could shed some light onto who she is. She does have a secret in her past that she guards. And when that secret is threatened to be revealed, what will she do to keep that secret hidden?”
We will also be getting a new book of anthology stories called “Canto Bigh on December 5th,” which will have four short stories about some alien characters inhabiting the casino city, and will be written by Saladin Ahmed, Rae Carson, Mira Grant, and John Jackson Miller. Siglain says “It’s a city filled with opportunity. There are very high stakes in this city. You’re going to follow four different aliens who will lead you through some of the gambling parlors and the racetracks and, you know, just this beautiful, lush city that’s as far from the Episode IV cantina as you can get. This is Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous for Star Wars. But looks can certainly be deceiving, and everything isn’t always as beautiful as it seems.”
And finally there is “Star Wars Made Easy” by Christian Blauvelt, which will serve as an easy guide for younger and newer fans of the “Star Wars” lore. Siglain describes the book as “If you don’t know the difference between a Jawa and a Jedi, is there a book that can very simply walk you through the franchise and tell you, ‘Okay, this is Star Wars, this is Empire, this is Jedi, here are the prequels, this is what Rogue One is. This book does that. It’s our Star Wars 101. It’s our Star Wars for Dummies.”
I’m really excited for the Luke, Leia, and Phasma books, as they all sound like cool stories for the characters, and are in unique settings for each of them that will hopefully serve as nice tie-ins to when we see them again in “The Last Jedi.”
