Today’s episode of “The Star Wars Show” had some Han Solo movie news, as they revealed who will be scoring the upcoming film.
They announced that John Powell will be the third composer to score a “Star Wars” film, joining John Williams and Michael Giacchino in that very exclusive club.
John Powell has scored plenty of film franchises in his career, including the “Bourne” series, “Shrek,” “Kung Fu Panda,” and “How to Train Your Dragon.” StarWars.com also says that the young Han Solo film “will be scored in the style of the original Star Wars movies but retain Powell’s distinctive voice.”
It’s still a little strange to hear a new composer get announced for a “Star Wars” movie other than John Williams, but as we keep getting more standalone films, the list of different “Star Wars” composers is only going to get bigger. But Michael Giacchino proved he can compose a great “Star Wars” score with “Rouge One,” and I’m confident John Powell will do the same for the young Han Solo movie in 2018.
