The Hollywood Reporter has broke a big story for the future of Lucasfilm, as they are reporting that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has extended her contract with the company for three more years, which is through 2021.
Another bit of interesting news to come out of this report is that The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Lucasfilm is really planning to market Episode IX as the final chapter of the Skywalker saga when promotion begins, and mentions the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss project as coming next, while only calling Rian Johnson’s movie a “potential” trilogy. They also say the plan for Lucasfilm moving forward is for them to really expand the universe even more through television, which mostly likely will be on the upcoming Disney streaming service.
Definitely some big news when we think about the future of Lucasfilm and “Star Wars” over the next few years, and I believe it’s still in great hands with Kathleen Kennedy in charge. Despite the lackluster box office results for “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and some behind-the-scenes drama, Kathleen Kenned has shown since she took over to bring in great talent, and to do what needs to be done to give us the best “Star Wars” experiences as possible, and I know that will continue going forward.
