Even though it was a month ago, I think we’re all still feeling the excitement of the Obi Wan TV series announcement made at D23! But while it was great to get the confirmation that the series was in development, and that Ewan McGregor would be back, there were no details about who the creative team would be.
Well toady Lucasfilm has given us that information by announcing that Deborah Chow , who’s fresh off of working on “The Mandalorian,” will be directing the Obi Wan series, as well as that Hossein Amini (The Alienist, Drive) will be writing the series.
Here is a statement from Kathleen Kennedy on Deborah Chow directing the Obi Wan series:
“We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”
It was also revealed that Ewan McGregor will be an executive producer on the series, along with Kathleen Kennedy, Tracey Seaward (The Queen), John Swartz (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), and Lucasfilm’s Executive Vice President Production, Jason McGatlin.
I like the idea that someone who has worked on the first live-action “Star Wars” series will be at the helm for another one as well, and just makes me more excited to see the episodes of “The Mandalorian” that Deborah Chow directed after reading Kathleen Kennedy’s statement, and hiring her for Obi Wan!
