A few weeks ago we learned that writer Gary Whitta’s involvement with the first “Star Wars” film was finished, but didn’t know who would be taking over the script for the film. Well now it’s being reported by The Hollywood Reporter that writer Chris Weitz, will be taking over writing duties for Gareth Edwards standalone movie. Chris Weitz writing credits include “About A Boy” (Which he was nominated for an Oscar for) and Disney’s upcoming live action movie of “Cinderella.” He’s also directed some movies that include “A Better Life,” “The Golden Compass,” and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”
While Chris Weitz taking over as writer for the first standalone film hasn’t been officially announced by Lucasfilm or Disney, The Hollywood Reporter is a very reliable outlet where this probably will be the case. While we don’t know how long Chris Weitz has been working on the script just yet, it would probably be safe to assume that he’s pretty far along with it, as production for the movie is set to start very soon, and reports are coming in that casting is underway.
Stay tuned as more details about the first standalone film get’s revealed, and you can check out the full report on Chris Weitz taking over as writer at The Hollywood Reporter.
