Both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that actress Felicity Jones has landed the lead role in Gareth Edwards standalone “Star Wars” film. There were reports last week that casting and screen testing were taking place last week, where the names Tatiana Maslany, Rooney Mara, as well as Felicity Jones were rumored to be up for the lead role, and it now looks like Felicity Jones won the part.
No other details were revealed as to what role she will be playing in the movie, but The Hollywood Reporter does also mention that Lucasfilm and Disney are looking at actors Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez for the lead male role.
With casting reports starting to come out now for the first standalone movie, it probably won’t be long until we get the official announcement from Lucasfilm, just as it was with the Episode VII casting.
