Some disappointing news has just come out about “The Force Awakens” presence at this year’s D23, as Entertainment Weekly has just revealed that there will be no new trailer, clips, or behind the scenes footage of the movie at Diseny’s event.
Entertainment Weekly got this information straight form J.J. Abrams himself:
“It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise,” director J.J. Abrams tells EW. “In the fall, there’ll be a trailer.”
“We’re thrilled to go to D23 and meet the fans, but it’s a tricky thing to try and rush [footage] for a convention or preexisting event that would, of course, be fun to show something at.”
“I’m still editing and we’re working on refining the cut, but it’s incredibly fun to see the movie come together. You realize certain things that you don’t need, certain things you can pull out.”
While it is disappointing we won’t see any new footage, it isn’t too surprising. As J.J. has said previously that the new trailer will be hitting in the fall, and it makes sense to have it debut on, or closer to Force Friday, which I’m hoping will be the case.
But since we’re not getting any new footage of “The Force Awakens,” hopefully we can expect to see new images of some still unseen characters like Maz Kanata and Supreme Leader Snoke, or maybe a new poster.
We’ll find out soon, as D23 kicks off in just a few days on August 14th!
