Mads Mikkelsen’s character in “Rogue One” was not featured in the teaser trailer, but we are learning a lot about his character these last two days thanks to some interviews he’s been doing, where maybe he didn’t get the memo about the secrecy that Lucasfilm has surrounding new “Star Wars” films!
The details revealed by Mads Mikkelsen are definitely spoilers for the movie, so if you do not want to know specific details on his character and how he factors into the story, you will want to hold off on reading any further.
Spoilers Below:
Talking to Sky News yesterday, Mads Mikkelsen did reveal that he is in fact playing Jyn Erso’s father, a rumor that we’ve heard from Making Star Wars previously, which now is confirmed. You can see Mads Mikkelsen revealing that info to Sky News in the video below.
And then today while talking to UK magazine Standard Online (Via Making Star Wars) he talked about whether or not we’ll see any classic characters in “Rogue One,” and that the film will jump in time as we will see his character with a young Jyn Erso. Here is what he said in the article over at Standard Online:
When asked if Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) or members of the original trilogy had joined the cast on set, he told Standard Online: “Some of them – but I would reveal too much. There are iconic characters in our film and also characters you have never heard of. It’s a mix.”
“I spend a lot of time with [Jones] and she’s a wonderful actress. I play her dad at the time of Felicity and I play her dad when she’s younger, so we jump back and forth in time.”
Mads Mikkelsen’s character in “Rogue One” will definitely be a fascinating one, and I love the idea of flashbacks becoming more of a part of “Star Wars” story telling as we move forward with new movies. And I think we all have a pretty good idea on which iconic character he’s talking about that we’ll see in the movie. But now we just have to see if more information on his “Rogue One” character gets revealed in the future by himself, or by Lucasfilm!
