In a bit of shocking and disappointing news, Disney has announced today that they will be discontinuing their Disney Infinity line of games, and will no longer self-publish any games in the future.
Here is the statement from Disney on the cancellation of the Disney Infinity line:
After a thorough evaluation, we have modified our approach to console gaming and will transition exclusively to a licensing model. This shift in strategy means we will cease production of Disney Infinity, where the lack of growth in the toys-to-life market, coupled with high development costs, has created a challenging business model. This means that we will be shutting down Avalanche, our internal studio that developed the game. This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans.”
While we did get three cool “Star Wars” games and figures for Disney Infinity last year, it is disappointing that we will not see it continue for future “Star Wars” movies that are coming as well. If you have yet purchase a “Star Wars” Disney Infinity set, you better get moving on it fast!
