Today on the Star Wars Show we got the name and a some info for the alien creature we saw in the “Rogue One” sizzle reel firing a gun turret and laughing it up. But Entertainment Weekly also had another reveal today, as they provided the name and a little more info not only on the gun turret alien, but also one of the other alien creatures we saw in the sizzle reel who was being referred to as Big Mouth.
Here are the new details learned about these two alien characters from Entertainment Weekly:
The alien in the sizzle reel firing the gun turret is known as Bistan, and his species is called the Iakaru. Also a cool bit of info learned was that he is firing from the new U-Wing Gunship. In regards to Bistan, Gareth Edwards says,“It’s not necessarily a character that we get to know, but I think he has a very memorable, iconic look. He’s one of my favorites. I can’t give away what happens to him.”
Next up is the alien now known as Pao, who Entertainment Weekly describes as a kind of platoon leader, who will coordinate the charge into battle. In describing Pao, Gareth Edwards says, “There was this great design of this creature that’s mouth would open really wide, and he looked like he was really good at giving orders and shouting at people during a battle. I was like, ‘We’ve got to give him that moment in the film,’ and so Pao was born out of that.”
While we did get the names of these two alien characters a few months ago due to a leak of some images from an upcoming “Rogue One” book, it’s still cool to learn more about what type of characters Bistan and Pao will be when we see them battle the Empire as the Rebels try to steal the Death Star plans!
