To go along with the announcement that J.J. Abrams would be returning to direct Episode IX, the official Star Wars Twitter account also just revealed that the release date for Episode IX has been pushed back as well, as it will continue the holiday release schedule for the Saga films with a December 20th, 2019 release date.

I kind of figured this would be the case when I heard J.J. would be back, as it is pretty similar to what happened with “The Force Awakens” once J.J. came on board to direct that film, and it was pushed back to December as well. But I’m perfectly okay with this, as the December releases have worked out beautifully so far, and it also gives J.J. and Lucasfilm the time they need to get Episode IX the way they want.
