Without a doubt the biggest surprise to come out of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” was the return of Maul, and while it has been awesome seeing his story continue in “The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels” the last few years, there was something really awesome and special seeing the Maul we knew from the animated series show up in live action.
The one disappointment you can make about his appearance in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” was that he only showed up via a hologram, instead of seeing him in the flesh. Well thanks to a new article over at Forbes to promote the upcoming home release of the film, Lucasfilm has given Forbes two new photos to release that give us an awesome look at Maul and all his robot legs glory without the hologram!
You can check out the images from Forbes below, as well as portion of an interview they conducted with Ray Park about returning as Maul:
In regards to how he found out about Maul returning, Ray Park says, “I found out last June/July when we were in Guatemala. I got the phone call from Lynne Hale from Lucasfilm. And it was really nice of her, because she said to me ‘Ray, we’re just calling to see if you would like to do it.’ And I went [inhales slowly] ‘Yeah. Do you want me on the plane now?’”
On the process of filming his scenes as Maul this time, Ray Park said he only received “A couple of sheets of what was going on beforehand, and then what was happening, and it’s pretty cool, because Sam [Witwer] did the voice and it was a different process for me. It was hearing the voice and then acting as well, so I really enjoyed this experience. If anything ever happens in the future and the character is back, and it’s me? I have a lot of great ideas of what I’d like to do with it.”
Those images are fantastic, and just really makes me hope that we haven’t seen the last of Maul in live-action. Be sure to check out the full interview with Ray Park on returning as Maul over at Forbes.
