Today during an earnings conference call, Disney’s Bob Iger gave some updates on not only Episode VII, but the planned release schedule for Episodes VIII and IX, as well as the standalone films. Here is what Bob Iger had to say during the conference call from Jedi News:
“We made some other news last week when we announced the cast of Star Wars Episode VII which includes some very familiar faces as well as some exciting new talent and the reaction has been tremendous. I was at Pinewood Studios with J.J. Abrams a couple of weeks ago and left more confident than ever that Episode VII will be the extraordinary movie Star Wars fans have been waiting for.”
Three spin off films being targeted for Star Wars before the end of the decade.
Episodes VII, VII and IX will be released every other year [assume 2015, 2017 and 2019.
“We are amazed at the passion for Star Wars since the acquisition.”
So if Disney’s plan holds true, we can be looking at six new Star Wars movies within the next 6 years! We’ll wait and see if everything goes according to schedule, but it’s definitely an exciting possibility to have that many new Star Wars films within the next few years.
