The Force Awakens Breaks Opening Weekend Records!

Well “The Force Awakens” opening weekend is just about over, and it did the monster numbers everyone was hoping it would!

“The Force Awakens” has set a new domestic opening weekend record with a debut of $238 million, and that number could go up once we get the final numbers from today’s box office.

Internationally, the film made $279 million in its five-day international debut, bringing it’s worldwide total to an already impressive $517 million.

Here’s what Disney Chairman Alan Horn had to say about the “The Force Awakens” massive success in it’s first weekend of release, while at the same time thanking the fans in a statement:

“Our sole focus has been creating a film that delivers that one-of-a-kind Star Wars experience, and director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and the Lucasfilm team have outdone themselves.”

“To all of the fans around the world who not only came out in Force to make this such an exciting and astronomical debut but who treated this film as their own and helped preserve the experience for their fellow fans by not spoiling it – thank you, we do.”

We all knew “The Force Awakens” would have a big opening weekend, but it was a good idea to keep our expectations in check before we found out it’s actual numbers. But now that we do know it shattered almost every record, we can be excited and boast that “Star Wars” is the new opening weekend king, and hopefully will be on it’s way to becoming the all-time box office champion!
