Empire is offering another sneak peek at their “The Force Awakens” article today, where this time they reveal some new details on Supreme Leader Snoke and The First Order straight from J.J. Abrams.
Here’s J.J. on Supreme Leader Sknoke:
“Kylo Ren is not a Sith,” confirms JJ Abrams in the new issue of Empire. “He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”
And here’s J.J. shedding some new light on the origin of The First Order:
“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams reveals. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”
We found out a few weeks ago that Kylo Ren is a member of the Knights of Ren, but this is the first time it has been confirmed that he is not a Sith in any way, and that he will indeed be serving under Supreme Leader Snoke, who now looks to just be the Supreme Leader of the Knights of Ren, and not The First Order.
I also speculated on our latest Podcast episode (Which you can listen to here) that maybe Snoke and the Knights of Ren were Force users who embraced both the Light and the Dark side, but it looks like that’s not going to be the case, as J.J. just said Sknoke is a powerful Dark Side user.
Definitely some great new stuff to chew on for both the Dark Side users in “The Force Awakens” and on the origins of The First Order. Hopefully more cool stuff will be revealed in the article when the Empire issue goes on sale this Thursday 8/27!
