While we just got the bad news of Disney Infinity games being discontinued, we do have some good “Star Wars” videogame news to report today, as EA has revealed that the next Star Wars Battlefront game will be coming in 2017, and that the long awaited game from Visceral will be hitting in 2018.
During an earnings call today, EA talked about how it wants to release new “Star Wars” games annually for the next three to four years, and confirmed the years of release for the next Battlefront game, and Visceral’s untiltied game.
Here is what EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said about their “Star Wars” titles during the earnings call, via Game Informer:
“We’ll most likely have one Star Wars title a year for the next three to four years. Next year we’ll see Star Wars battlefront back with bigger and better worlds, because we now have the new movies to work off of, not just the historical movies that we used before. We also are working on a Star Wars action game that part of the Motive team is working on as well as part of the Visceral team and that’s most likely the following year.”
While it’s not surprising that we’ll be getting a new Star Wars Battlefront game, it’s definitely great to know what year it’s coming, and that it will be released as soon as next year! I’ll be curious to see if we get a teaser trailer or some more info on both games at E3 next month, now that we know what years they’re coming out, or if they will want to save the reveals of both games for next year. One thing is for sure, we’re going to be playing lots more Star Wars Battlefront for the next couple of years!
