During the Disney Parks panel at D23 today, the official name has finally been revealed for the Star Wars themed lands coming to Disney parks in 2019. It will officially be called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and you can see a cool new video that shows off what it’s going to be like walking through this new “Star Wars” attraction!
Some new details about Galaxy’s Edge were also revealed during the panel. Via the Disney Parks Blog, it was revealed that the park will open first at Disneyland in 2019, where we will be able to encounter some familiar characters such as BB-8, Chewbacca, Hondo, and the original Captain Rex from Star Tours, who will now DJ at the planet’s cantina! And while at the cantina, guest will be able to try some familiar Star Wars food and drinks, such as the iconic blue milk.
As for the two main attractions, the first will be one where you’re on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay, where the Disney Parks Blog says is “an attraction built on a scale we’ve never done before.” But of course the main attraction is going to be the Millenium Falcon ride. Not only will we be able to fly the Falcon, but we will also be able to shoot it’s blasters, and prepare for hyperspace while trying to complete a critical mission. But as great as that all sounds, the Falcon ride will also have repercussions afterwards depending on how well, or not so well you fly the ship. If you fly well and with skill, you will earn some galactic credits. But if you bring the Falcon back banged up, you may end up facing off against a bounty hunter named Harkos at the cantina!
All this sounds really cool, and when you combine this info with what we saw from that scale model of the full park, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to be a “Star Wars” experience like no other.
