A very disappointing bit of news is being reported today that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said that the Boba Fett film is now “100% dead.”
This comes from Sirius XM journalist Erick Weber, who was in attendance of a special screening of “Black Panther” last night that Kathleen Kennedy was hosting, and when asked about it, she told Erick Weber that the Boba Fett film is no longer part of their current plan, and that they are focusing on “The Mandalorian.”
Here are Erick Weber’s tweets on what he was told:
Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN #StarWars

Had time for couple of questions, she was heading out door after hosting Coogler/BP party, told her to work BF into some upcoming SW project, my fave badass character for sure!

Those who listen to our podcast and follow me on Twitter know that I have been banging the drum for a standalone Boba Fett film every since “Star Wars” standalone films were first announced, so hearing this news today is very disappointing.
The last we heard about a potential Boba Fett film was that it was being written and directed by James Managold, which I was really excited about, but it looks like the Boba Fett film is a casualty of Lucasfilm’s restructuring and slowing down of their upcoming “Star Wars” films due to the box office disappointment of “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
One positive I’m taking from this news, is that with their focus now mainly on “The Mandalorian,” I believe there is a greater chance of Boba showing up in that series at some point, which I will be all for. Boba Fett has been a favorite of mine every since I was a kid, and one of the big aspects of getting “Star Wars” standalone films I was really exited about, was potentially one about about Boba Fett, as I couldn’t wait to get new canon stories about one of my favorite characters in live-action. But now that a film looks to be off the table, I will gladly take new live-action Boba Fett stories on a TV show, so I will now start to bang that drum!
Just because we won’t get a film based solely on Boba, doesn’t mean we won’t get him at all. I hope we get another film based in the same era as Solo, that gives us more of Crimson Dawn, Jabba, Boba, and maybe even some of the bounty hunters from Clone Wars. An “underworld” movie, if you will… Of course there needs to be some really great writing for a project like that, but hopefully we get to see Daniel Logan reprise his role in full Boba armor, even if it’s just as part of group.
