Fans everywhere are sill mourning the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher from last week. And while that sadness continues to be felt by everyone, the sad reality is that Disney and Lucasfilm have to decide on how to move forward with Leia’s story for Episodes VIII and IX.
In an article over at The Hollywood Reporter today, they are saying that on January 10th, Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow will meet with Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm to weigh the options on how to move forward with Leia’s story.
The Hollywood Reporter also revealed from their sources two keys scenes from Episode VIII that were filmed for Leia. They can be considered spoilers, so I’m throwing the warning out there:
Insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that at least two key scenes are planned for Episode VIII (Dec. 15) and Episode IX (2019): A Leia reunion with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and a confrontation with Kylo Ren.
Details of where those scenes fit into the movies remain unclear, but insiders say Leia was to have been a bigger part of Episode IX than VIII.
While we’re all excited for Episodes VIII and IX, it really sucks that Leia’s fate is an issue that has to be figured out right now at Lucasfilm. But I am confident that the talented creative team at Lucasfilm will give us a fitting story for Leia that not only serves the saga, but honors the legacy of Carrie Fisher.
